“You’re the last leaf on an autumn branch. You know your turn is coming.”
For millions of years, natural selection wrote the rules. Homo sapiens is one of its results, but the only one that ever discovered the rules existed. Now we may be about to leave them behind.
Neural interfaces. Artificial intelligence. Flesh and code, converging. What if the metamorphosis has already begun, and we simply have no name for it yet?
Maybe in a few decades the last purely biological generation hands the world to something else. A shared consciousness. No individual death. No border where one self ends and the next begins. Maybe not. But the question is worth asking now.
We are the generation standing on the threshold. The only one that gets to see the change arrive, and still gets to choose how to cross it.
Darwin brought us this far. What comes next, we choose.
